Wednesday Feature: Midweek Chit Chat
* THREE hours of races is all that Gawlers welcome back to racing got.
The newly remade course was forced to put its come back on hold after a heavy down pour on track.
The meeting, the first to be held since the $13 million upgrade, started on a slow (7) track, which was downgraded to a heavy (8).
Stewards were approached by the jockeys who voiced their concerns about visibility and water pooling between the 1400m and 800m marks after race four.
A delegation of jockeys walked the track with stewards and the decision was then made to call the meeting off.
* APPRENTICE Ben Knobel has joined Caulfield's Mick Price on a three-month loan from Tony Noonan after the departure of Jason Maskiell.
* MELBOURNE Racing Club chairman Peter Young will depart with heir apparent Mike Symons likely to take over.
* The Scobie Breasly media is hotting up with ten jockeys still in contention to win it.
The medal could go to Glen Boss, Dwayne Dunn, Nick Hall, Steven King, Jason Maskiell, Luke Nolen, Damien Oliver, Michael Rodd, Chris Symons or Craig Williams.
Oliver, who won the inaugural Medal in 1996, holds the record as a six-time winner. Williams has won the past four. Steven King is the only other jockey among the 10 who has won the medal, in 1997

New to the blackbook:
Victoria:
Lonhreign - Will be better suited over the longer trip. Got back, but pushed forward and looked good towards the end.
Monarto - Ran an awesome race on the Geelong synthetic track, shows a stack of natural ability. One to keep an eye on.
Retrieve - Finally broke maiden status at Geelong with a nice victory. One who is certainly city grade and well worth watching over the next few starts.
Dreams to Silk - Full brother to Heart of Dreams and Rightfully Yours. Was bloody terrible, but well worth chucking in the blackbook until you see it over more ground.
Too Deadly - Was slow to begin and then got held up in the final parts of the race. Would have ran third if it wasn't for the hold up. Big watch.
Adroitly - Massive 5 length winner at Seymour at Sunday and looks to have a heap of ability. Looking forward to seeing it progress through the grades.
NSW:
Noble Romp - looking for further, as its trial would suggest. Got a fair distance back in its first start, but tan home very nicely. One to watch.
Coyote - Shifted back and showed some guts and ran home pretty nicely. Got going well late as well so that would suggest that it will keep going.

Monday Feature: Rizzo's Rant
SUPER SYNTHETIC: GEELONG'S TRACK A GONot so much a rant for my first one back, but rather a Rizzo’s pat on the back.
Finally sense has prevailed at Geelong with the introduction of the new synthetic track.
It has taken time, and it has cost a lot of money, but the new track can only be good for racing, owners, trainers and more importantly the Geelong Racing Club.
While I have been a sceptic in the past about this type of surface, I have been won over by its durability and quality.
Punting in the winter is bloody hard, just ask anyone.
Parts of the course are chopped up more then others, tracks not suitably rated, horses not handling the conditions.
Unless you are certain on a horse, it takes some guts to have a decent flutter at this time of year in Victoria.
This has now changed with the synthetic track giving us good racing no matter what the conditions are.
At a time where the industry is looking for more punting turnover, nothing gets my confidence up then betting on the new Geelong track.
Horses can handle the conditions better, and you know that if your bet loses it wasn’t because of a bog track.
The only words I have heard so far from everyone who have raced at it has been positive.
What we have also seen is continual racing. Meets that have been called off in the past are now being moved to Geelong. Again another win for the industry.
With so many meets scheduled in such a short time, the track has been put to the test, but it has passed with flying colours.
It makes you wonder where the future of racing is, because as far as I see it, Geelong is on a major money spinner now the course is up and running.
I would like to see more of these tracks pop up around Australia because ultimately it is the only way we will see even racing in winter.
Future success is now in the hands of the trainers. We need their support to make sure this track survives.
If the nominations continues and the prize money is good then the opportunities are endless for Geelong and their new track.

Race 2: Condahussler ($26.00, $6.50) - Sensational each way value for a highly rated first starter. Ran a great trial at Geelong last week and topped that off with an impressive run on Tuesday.
Race 3: Countcool ($7.00) - Gets a 3kg claim from McCabe and is a real light weight chance.
Race 5: My Girl Helen ($16.00, $4.50) - Ran a nice third last start and should be there abouts with the step up in distance.
Lord of the Parrots ($12.00, $3.60) - Just a really honest type who has never missed the money in its two starts. Looks sensational each way value.
Rosehill:
Race 3: Hus Der Lieften ($5.50) - Has shown some good form up in Queensland and has shown that it has a bit of natural ability. Comes up against some good runners, but $5.50 is value.
Race 5: Back On Top ($4.40) - Is back with some solid runs last spell, the $4.40 is good each way value and I can see it much shorter on raceday.
Race 8: Rollins ($5.00 place) - Has ran three seconds in a row in Melbourne and is now about to have another run in NSW. Has good form at this trip and looks a nice place chance.
Doomben:
Race 2: Showciti ($7.00 place) - Hasn't been in the best form, but is certainly not is a tough race. Can bounce back here and get a place.
Race 4: Seventh Heart ($12.00, $3.60) - Looks to have some nice each way odds here. Certainly overs in this group of runners. Will be right there in the finish.
Race 5: D'Jet ($21.00, $5.50) - Another each way shot. A little average at listed level, but drops back here and rates very highly.

Race 1: A tough race to start with, with my top four selections all looking like they can win the race. Shrapnel hasn't been bad at all in its three starts. Its run behind Toorak Toff was great. In Faith started well, but has found trouble in its last few starts. If it keeps out of trouble it will give this a shake. Spirit Cent has been racing in fantastic form recently, while Territory started first up with a nice second.

Race 2: Jolie Brise is the clear standout for me here. Racing in OK form, and gets 54 kilos on the back against a VERY moderate field. Should put them away. With Decorum looks the challenger, however is carrying 59 kilograms which might be hard. Ocean Dream hasn't been too bad, while Belle of Dubai might sneak in there somewhere.

Race 3: Spacecraft is clearly the best pick here and with the majority looking for a step up in distance, I can't see many getting close. Easily the best of the rest is Bonindi which has been ok of late. Orchestra Stalls might run a nice little place race, while Sundrome looks the best of those needing extra distance. I would not discount The Sportsman either.

Race 4: NETRA was amazing on its last lot of runs at the Valley and just loves this course. Sunday Rose is a classy 4 year old who will give this lot a run for their money. Hooness looks to have a bit of class on its side, while Save A Penny has won 4 from 6 at this trip and has been good at the valley.

Race 5: Rainbow Styling was fantastic at its last start, and this one looks right up its ally again. Linton obviously is looking for more ground, but this is a nice stepping stone for it. Avienus drops in the weights and will run a lot better this start. Precedence has class, but might go either which way. Certainly looking for 2500m+

Race 6: HAY LIST is the best sprinter going around, and should win again. I guess there will be a race soon where he gets outdone, and this could be it. Might get his head up and about a little during the run. If he is switched on his will smash these. TOngue tie comes onto Love Conqueers All for this run and it should be very competitive. Bart has Latin News flying and it should be competitive. Eagle Falls is a good horse and will certainly be running in and around the first four somewhere.

Race 7: Bullbars follows the form of a few other horses into this race, and might have a littl ebit more in the tank to go on with this start. Liveandletdie gets a much better track this time and should improve, while Censor is the quality horse in this field. I thought Run For Levi's run up against a few of these was very good and he is a good chance for a place.

Ocean Challenger is a good honest horse, while Umatain showed signs last prep and ran on strongly in his last start at Geelong.

Looks a good race with lots of different stayers returning or starting on the preparations. 1800m will be a bit short for most of them, which makes it easier to line up the form.

Was impressive winning a Flemington last start, however he loves the track there. Caulfield he is good at, but I feel he might be ready for a step up in distance now. Place chance.
2. Master O'Reilly (4) - D.Dunn
Will find this way too short, and would be an outside place hope only.

Will find this way too short, and would be an outside place hope only.
4. Metal Bender (7) - H. Bowman
A nice return in Sydney makes him a real player here. Needs to run a good race today to really show that he is a serious spring contender.

Looks a nice race, for one of the newest stars in racing. Can he win though? You would think that he was a very good chance, but you couldn't possibly take the $1.90 on offer.
11. Zabrasive (10) - C. Newitt
Looks to be one of the stayers with a genuine place chance here. Nice prep so far, needs more distance but has run ok at the shorter trips.
