Robot jockeys are closer then we think...
Sometimes you need colour.. In our day to day lives full of black and white the colour of life can be exposed in times when we least expect it.
Colour can come in various forms and many shapes and many sizes, you can never put a finger on it, but when it happens we all know what it is.
Talking to people about why they got into football they say “Oh I liked Dermie” or “I liked Capper”. It draws in families, it draws in people and it creates a hype and a buzz about an event.
Without Mark Jackson and his antics in the goal square at Geelong home games it would have been possible that I wouldn’t be a Geelong supporter. I would never go to the footy, and I would be doing something else on a weekend.
This man attracted my family to the football, now after many years supporting the club, they will never be seen without a membership or some sort of cats paraphernalia.
So why do we insist on taking the colour out of horse racing??
Over the spring carnival we saw two of the best wins of two separate jockey’s careers.
Glen Boss aboard So You Think in the Cox Plate was one of the best wins in his career, while Corey Brown rode Shocking to perfection.
Both were emotional after crossing the line and both acted out with pure emotional instinct.
It was great for racing to see two passionate jockeys open their hearts on two of the biggest days in our racing calendar.
Yet they were both slapped with fines for their actions after crossing the line.
Racing Victoria should be applauding these jockeys for bringing some life on course to these carnivals.
Imagine the outrage if Damian Oliver was fined for his actions after an emotional win on Media Puzzle.
Or what about Craig Newitt when he won after his father sadly passed away?
There are times in our lives where we should be able to act out, expose ourselves to the world and let people in.
While I’m not saying jockeys should prance around and dance after winning a Mildura maiden, surely there should be some leniency when some of our best jockeys reach new heights in their careers.
If the VRC wanted robots and not humans then maybe they should start designing them.
I’m Rizzo and that is my rant.

The same VRC that thought it was an awesome idea to have musicial acts while the horses were getting ready to get into the barriers for the biggest races this spring carnival ;) enough said.
